"Wonders of the Word" Pt 3

May 31, 2026    Pastor Jason Dennett

In this powerful exploration of Mark 4:21-34, we're challenged to examine the condition of our hearts when receiving God's Word. Building on the foundational parable of the sower, this message walks us through three crucial aspects of how the Kingdom operates: illumination, multiplication, and contamination. Like oil lamps in the first century, we're called to shine brightly by being diligent both in learning Scripture and sharing it with others. The agricultural imagery reminds us that spiritual growth requires patience—just like bamboo that grows roots for years before shooting upward, God's work in us and through us unfolds on His timeline, not ours. But perhaps most sobering is the warning about contamination: the birds nesting in the mustard tree represent how Satan infiltrates and corrupts what God is building. Throughout church history, we see this contamination manifesting politically, financially, doctrinally, and spiritually. The question we must wrestle with is deeply personal: Are we allowing open doors in our own lives—through entertainment, relationships, or pursuits—that compete with God's Word taking root? This isn't about paranoia but vigilance, recognizing that we're in an invisible war requiring us to be sober and alert. The call is clear: guard what enters our hearts and homes, be patient with spiritual growth, and shine the light of God's truth in a dark world.
