"Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field that the LORD God had made.  And he said to the woman, Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?" - Genesis 3:1

The very first direct quote that we read of satan in the Bible is where he questions the Word of God.  Adam and Eve were placed in the Garden, with an abundance of blessings and provision all around them.  They lacked for nothing, and lived in a perfect environment.  The Lord had previously told Adam not to eat of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil (2:16-17), for in doing so it would bring death to him.

The Lord had stated this very clearly to Adam, and He even explained why this command needed to be followed.  The Word of God was clear, understandable, and completely reasonable.  Nonetheless, it was this Word that satan chose to question, and bring into doubt in the mind of Eve.  Satan’s initial strategy was to cast doubts and questioning upon the truthfulness and reliability of God’s Word.

Satan will always seek to deceive people into doubting the Word of God!

Even today, thousands of years later, the playbook of satan hasn’t changed very much.  He continues to seek to undermine and attack the Word of God in the mind of believers.  This age old strategy of the enemy hasn’t ceased, but rather increased in today’s world of skepticism, humanism, and atheism.

This attack can come in many different forms against us as Christians.  Many times it will take the shape of an “intellectual” attack, under the guise of biology or philosophy, stating that the Bible is irrational and unscientific.

Other times it will be masqueraded as a “social” attack, where the Word of God is declared to be “old-fashioned”, “out of date”, and something that a reasonable modern person would never believe.  Still other times, it may come in the form of a “moral” attack, where it is declared that the Word of God is “narrow minded”, ethically “intolerant”, and morally unacceptable in our modern progressive age.

This is one of the greatest attacks of the enemy.  If he can strip the Word of God out of a believer’s hands, by causing them to doubt it, he can separate them from the true source of power and strength in the life of a Christian (Read Psalm 1; Psalm 138:2; John 8:31-32; 2 Timothy 3:16).

If you are doubting and are beginning to disbelieve the Word of God, the enemy is already working in your mind, as he did with Adam and Eve.  Search for the evidence and proof of it, if that is what you need, as Christianity is completely verified in history, archaeology, philosophy, and science (1 Peter 3:15; Acts 17:11; John 5:36; 10:38; 14:11; 17:17; 20:26-29).

Always be on guard and hold firmly to the Word of God in your life as a believer.  Today, read the words of Jesus, study the teachings of the apostles (Acts 2:42-47), knowing that you hold in your hands the very Word of God, given to you by the Lord! (1 Thess 2:13) Love His Word, learn His Word, and live His Word today!

" And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, "Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die."- Genesis 2:16,17

In the beginning, Adam’s relationship with his Creator was very simple. It was based upon one simple and foundational principle: obedience.  The Lord had told Adam that he and Eve could freely eat of every tree that was in the Garden of Eden, which probably numbered in the thousands.  Adam and Eve were tremendously blessed by the Lord, and enjoyed incredible freedom and liberty to experience the perfect world around them.

There was only one simple rule that needed to be obeyed, namely not eating from one particular tree in the Garden, the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.  As long as Adam and Eve obeyed this principle, their relationship with the Lord was intact.  They showed by obedience that He was their Creator, and they were His creatures.  By following God’s singular command, they were declaring that He was the Lord and they were simply His servants and worshippers.  As long as there was obedience, all was well and good in the world. Obedience maintained a proper relationship between the Lord and humanity.

Obedience to GOD is the true sign of worship.

Of course, we all know what happened.  After a certain time, Eve was deceived by the satan speaking through a serpent, and Adam willfully disobeyed the Lord in following his wife’s example.  Disobedience and rebellion against the clear command of God fractured and disrupted the perfect relationship that man had with his Creator. Sin entered the human race, and with it, came death, disease, and deterioration. (Read Romans 5)

The same is true in our lives today.  We too, have the same daily choice as did Adam in the Garden.  As long as we walk with the Lord in obedience, our proper relationship is maintained.  We are declaring to Him that we love Him, and worship Him as our Lord and Master. However, we too must face the same test that Adam did.  We encounter “forbidden fruit” throughout our week, and we must decide what is more important to us, the Creator or the created thing.  We face the same challenge that Adam did, and as long as we can “pass the test” our relationship with the Lord is in a right standing.

Thank God that though we, like Adam, occasionally fail, He has made a way for us to be forgiven and saved.  Though the first Adam failed and sinned, the “Last Adam” Jesus Christ (1 Cor 15:45), has conquered victoriously!  Where Adam gave in to temptation in a perfect world, Jesus conquered sin in a fallen world. Adam fell prey to satan’s schemes, but Jesus triumphed (Matthew 4:1-11) over the lies of the enemy!

If you have given in to temptation, then turn to Christ for cleansing and forgiveness today (1 John 1:9; Romans 10:9-10) and He will wash you of all your wrongdoing.  Ask Him to fill you with the power of His Holy Spirit (Romans 8:13; Acts 1:8), and He will give you power to conquer sin, to say no to the “forbidden fruit”, and you’ll pass the test the next time it comes you way!

Choose to obey the Lord, as an act of worship today, and let GOD truly be GOD in your life!

" Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness… So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them." - Genesis 1:26,27

When God created mankind, He made us to be very similar to Himself.  You see, the True GOD is a Trinity. He is one GOD, who exists in three separate, distinct, divine Persons: Father, Son, and Spirit.  GOD is one in His substance, but three in Persons.

We see in Genesis 1:26,27 that the Father, Son, and Spirit intentionally created mankind to be like GOD.  In the sense that GOD is a Trinity, man is also made to be a kind of “trinity”.  Man is one in being, but is composed of three distinct parts: body, soul, and spirit.  Scripture makes numerous references to these divisions in man. (Read 1 Thessalonians 5:23; Hebrews 4:12)

The body is the physical part of you (Greek “soma”) that hungers for food. The soul (Greek “psuche”) is the mind, will, and emotions you possess.  This part of you longs for recreation, entertainment, and relationships. When you are bored, your soul is “hungry”. The spirit (Greek “pneuma”) is the part of you that can commune with GOD, who is a Spirit.  This is the part of you that can fellowship with the Lord, be born again, and is the most important part of who you are as a person.

GOD created you to be like Himself…and for Himself!

Being in “God’s image” we understand that we can do certain things like GOD.  Like our Creator, we too can create; we too can love; we too have the power to choose our destiny.  Many of the things we’re capable of as humans, though different, are very similar to our Creator. We are made in His image!

Since humans are the only creatures in the entire universe to be made “in God’s image”, we’re incredibly unique, valuable, and indeed priceless to our Creator.  We are completely different and unique from the angels, animals, and any other life form the Lord has ever made. Because of this, YOU are incredibly precious and priceless to your Maker.  This is why GOD became a Man, and died for YOUR sins, because YOU are so valuable and special to Him!  He made YOU in His image, and He loves YOU greatly!

GOD needs nothing from no one.  He is GOD and is completely sufficient within Himself.  But why then did He make mankind? Because it gives Him pleasure and joy to share His unending life with us, and to give of His infinite love to mankind.  He made YOU in His image, like Himself, to have a love relationship with Himself.  All things have been made by Christ and for Christ…including YOU! (Read Colossians 1:16)

Fulfill the reason for your existence, and today, spend deep rich time with your Creator.  He has made you in His image, in His likeness, and YOU are priceless to Him.  When you speak to Him, love Him, and walk with Him in communion, you are fulfilling the very reason you were created… to love and know your Great God and Savior, Jesus Christ!

A Strong Foundation

GOD called the entire universe into existence, from absolute nothingness!  This was the pivotal moment when He brought all time, space, matter, and energy into being.  This was the beginning of the cosmos as we know it. The Scriptures declare it, and science proves it. GOD, the eternal Architect, instantaneously designed His masterful creation, and spoke it all into existence!

This is a basic and foundational truth declared to us in the Scriptures: that GOD is the Almighty Creator of the world, and the Creator of you!  It is one of the great "bedrock" truths of our lives as human beings. If you can believe this first verse of the Bible, no other verse should seem too difficult or impossible for GOD!

If I truly believe that GOD is my personal Creator, then I must recognize the I owe Him everything.  My life comes from Him; my breath comes from Him; my body comes from Him; my children and family come from Him; this world and all of it's good gifts flow from His loving hands into my life. Everything good in my life comes from my great GOD and Creator!

If I believe that GOD is my Creator, it will affect my daily living!

Many times in our lives, we go through extreme difficulties, trials, and hardships in our faith.  It is especially in these challenging times that we find ourselves falling back and relying upon our deepest and strongest beliefs.  Understanding and believing that GOD is your Creator, is one of these foundational beliefs.  It is one of the "bedrock" truths of our lives, and when all else seems shaky and unstable, it can strengthen and stabilize your life once again.

If I recognize that GOD is my Creator, then I will give Him what is due: worship and thanksgiving!  I will seek to worship Him in the way that He has commanded and not invent my own religious system.  Amazingly, we see in the Scriptures that the GOD and Creator of the universe has become a man, and walked among us - in the Person of Jesus Christ! (Read John 1:1-3, 14; Colossians 1:16; Hebrews 1:1-2)

The way to truly know your Creator, and to worship Him as He has commanded, is to come to the Lord Jesus Christ, and receive Him into your heart as your Savior (Revelation 3:20).  He loves you, has created you, and has died on the Cross to save you from your sin.  Receive Him into your heart today, asking Him to cleanse you from your sin. Then you will truly be at peace with your Maker, and you can walk with Him in your daily life. You can enjoy the strong foundation of having your Creator in your life!

Our Amazing God .. is the Source!

The Source.jpg

"..God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” Then He said, “Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.” Moreover He said, “I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look upon God." Exodus 3:4-6

Have you ever had that nervous, insecure feeling of standing before a judge in a courtroom, or perhaps with a police officer while being pulled over? Most of us have...and it makes sense!

When you realize the power and authority that the person in front of you can wield over your life and situation, it makes all the sense in the world to feel that humbled sense of respect, honor, and even a bit of healthy fear!

But isn't it funny that most of the time we don't feel that way towards GOD?  Though He is the Ultimate Judge and the Almighty Ruler over all that exists, yet many times we tend to show more respect and reverence towards human officials and authorities.

In Exodus 3, when Moses was confronted at the "Burning Bush" with the visible Presence of the Living GOD, he knew enough to be reverent and full of wonder, not even daring to lift up his face:

"..God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” Then He said, “Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.” Moreover He said, “I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look upon God." - Exodus 3:4-6

If we would simply stop and consider Who the LORD truly is, and how He has revealed Himself to us through His Word, we too would be filled with an awesome wonder and a reverent respect for our Creator.

One of the amazing things that we learn about the LORD is that He alone is the eternal Source of everthing that exists in the universe. God existed before anything else and He depends on nothing for His existence. Rather, He gives moment-by-moment existence to everything else that is...including you!

Read these verses slowly and carefully, allowing their full meaning to impact your heart and mind:

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” - Gen. 1:1

“Before the mountains were born or You brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting You are God” - Ps. 90:2

“I am the Alpha and the Omega..I am the First and the Last” - Rev. 1:8,17

“Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made” - John 1:3

“You created all things, and by Your will they were created and have their being” - Rev. 4:11“He is not served by human hands, as if He needed anything, because He Himself gives all men life and breath and everything else” - Acts 17:25

“For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things” - Rom. 11:36

“There is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live” - 1 Cor. 8:6

“For by Him all things were created … all things were created by Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together” - Col. 1:17

It seems clear, that just like a musical note will only exist for as long as the singer continues to hold it through his singing, so we only exist because the LORD continually holds us together by His great power! He alone is the Great Source of our daily life and existence! Not only this, but God is also the Fountain of everthing that is good, beautiful, and lovely. No wonder that Jeremiah called Him the "Fountain of Living Waters" in Jer 2:13, praising Him for His gracious blessings! (Read 1Jn 4:8; Jn 14:6; Isa 6:3)

Moses was right to bow down in humble reverence and loving worship before the LORD.  He seemed to have a good idea of Who he was talking you and I?

A.W. Tozer said these famous words: "What comes to your mind when you think about God, is the most important thing about you."

I encourage you to sit before the LORD, in the stillness of prayer and
meditation, and consider Him as the Great Source of all that exists.  Contemplate His greatness, His power, and His awesome love for you personally!

Worship Him joyfully, and serve Him faithfully as the LORD of heaven and earth...and your very existence today!
