God is in Control!

"Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne set in Heaven, and One sat on the throne."
- Revelation 4:2

Sometimes I feel as though this crazy world is spinning out of control. I watch the news..I hear the radio broadcasts..I listen to some of the people's problems at church..and then I see my own life!  Sometimes it's very easy for us to think that this third rock from the sun we're on called "earth" is wildly spinning out of control, with no hope in sight, right?!?

Wrong.  We simply have to readjust our focus in life.  We need to not look at the people who are trembling, nor at the earth which is spinning, but only at the One who is sitting...on His Throne in Heaven!

This is precisely the vision that Jesus wanted His followers to have in the 1st century. Why? Because they probably felt like their world was out of control as well. Caesar Nero was throwing Christians to the lions, having them burned alive while tied to poles in his personal garden.  Caesar Domitian was sending them to be killed by wild beasts, slain by gladiators in the arena of Rome, and crucified by the thousands!  The Christian Persecutions, that would last for 200 years, had now begun.

It was to this group of saints that the Lord gave the book of Revelation to.  The word "revelation" is ἀποκάλυψις in Greek - "apokalypsis" means "an unveiling, to uncover and reveal something previously unknown." It was to this group of persecuted saints, and their exiled pastor John, that Jesus reminded them GOD was in complete control of their situation:

Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne set in heaven, and [One] sat on the throne. And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance; and [there was] a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald. Around the throne [were] twenty-four thrones, and on the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white robes; and they had crowns of gold on their heads. ... The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying: "Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!" Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying: "You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created." - Revelation 4:2-4, 8-11

Though there was chaos all around them, and turmoil within them...GOD was still sovereign over them!  The Lord was on the Throne of His power and might, as He has been from eternity past.  He wanted to reassure them, and you, that He is still in control, and always will be!  We may not understand how his plan is unfolding (Read Isa 55:8-9; Rev 1:19), but we can be sure that He is ALWAYS in control, since He is ALWAYS on the throne.  I may not know what the future holds, but I do know Who holds the future - GOD!  If He is for me, who could ever be against me? (Read Romans 8:31-39) It is true that "God and one man are a majority!"  We can rest in His love, trust in His power, and wait for his plan....He is on the Throne!
