Longing for Your Master's Return

"..looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.."
- Titus 2:13

The true story of a dog named "Haachi" is unforgettable and almost unbelievable. About 100 years ago, in the country of Japan, a box fell off a train containing a small Akita puppy. A kind Japanese man found the puppy at the train station, took him in, and raised him as his own.

The Japanese man happened to be a university teacher in one of the major cities of the country.  Because of this he had to take the local train to work on a daily basis, and had to walk to the train station every morning very early.  The puppy, now named "Haachi", would stay at home in the yard of the house, patiently awaiting the return of his master.

As Haachi grew older, he began to accompany his master to the train station, where he would obediently sit and stay, as his owner boarded the train and departed for work on a daily basis.  Soon, the master noticed something remarkable about his canine companion: Haachi was now habitually waiting all day at the train station, in exactly the same spot, until his master returned in the late afternoon! Regardless of rain or snow, hot or cold, this faithful friend never wavered in his commitment to being there, waiting for his master to come home.

But one day, everything changed. Haachi's master went to work as normal, with his faithful friend bidding him farewell at the train station.  However, on this day, the master would not return.  The professor had a heart attack while teaching at the university, and died later that day.  Of course, Haachi didn't know or understand any of this. So what did Haachi do?  He waited...for 1 day...then for an entire week. The friends of the professor noticed that Haachi continued to wait for him, every day, all day, in exactly the same spot! These friends fed Haachi, loved him, and made sure that he was as comfortable as possible.  All through that coming year, even in the rain and snow, Haachi faithfully stayed on his post, awaiting his master's return.  This went on month after month, year after year, until 7 years later Haachi went to sleep for the last time.  He died looking, longing, and waiting for his master to come!  Amazing!

Now, if a dog can display that amount of loyalty to his human master, how much more should we be able to faithfully wait, work, and watch for the soon return of the great Master, Jesus Christ?  Should we not be able to put into practice the words of Jesus in Matthew 24:42-44 -

"Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. 43 "But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. 44 "Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect."

Is Christ's return a daily reality in your life?  Do you believe He could return today? Does this truth give your life a sense of urgency and priority for Christ?  If not, ask the Lord to change your heart, to change your schedule, to change your priorities today.  Begin to live for the coming Kingdom of Christ again.  Ask the Lord to show you how to use your daily time, talents, and treasures for His Kingdom expansion.  Live well and live zealously for your Master, until He returns.

Look for Him; long for Him; labor for Him today...He is coming soon! (Read Luke 19:11-27)
