"Abraham called the name of the place, The-LORD-Will-Provide.."
- Genesis 22:14
Money is one of our biggest fears. Knowing this would be the case, one of the beautiful ways that the LORD has revealed Himself to us is as our Great Provider. In Genesis 22 the LORD called Abraham to walk in faith, and offer back to Him the miracle son He'd given to Abraham, Isaac. Amazingly, Abraham obeyed in faith and proceeded to make the journey to sacrifice his son back to the LORD. When Isaac asked where the lamb for the sacrifice was, Abraham simply answered: "My son, God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering." - Genesis 22:8
As you know, the LORD stopped Abraham, having seen his faith displayed, and proved a ram instead for the sacrifice. At the end of the encounter, Abraham named the place "YHWH-Jireh" which is Hebrew for "The LORD will provide". He knew that a greater sacrifice would one day be offered on that same spot, Jesus Christ, the sinless Lamb of God.
The LORD was faithful to provide, despite Abraham's understandable fears, an animal for the sacrifice that day. But even more significantly, the LORD has been faithful to provide for you and I, a sacrifice for our sins - Jesus Christ, the Son of God. God is so faithful, and has kept true to His promise to provide for our deepest needs. As if this wasn't enough, the LORD Jesus Himself even promises to provide for our physical, daily needs as well:
"Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? "Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? "Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? "So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; "and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. "Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? "Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' "For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day [is] its own trouble." Matthew 6:25-34
Jesus told us that if the LORD provides for the need of the birds, and the lilies, why would He not provide for you? Only humans have been made in the image of God, and it is to Christians that the LORD gives His promise, that He will provide for all of your physical needs.
Have you stopped believing that that LORD is you Great Provider?
Are you seeking things that are luxuries and not truly needs? Are you being diligent to work hard as see the Lord provide that way as well?
